CAMELIA Journal

CAMELIA is the first painting in the Mother Earth series about the struggle with preserving and restoring the environment. The female image is symbolic of Mother Earth and each plant, insect, and animal has its own symbolism related to the natural cycles of death and decay, growth and rebirth, what is naturally occurring and what is unnaturally occurring in the environment. In this painting Mother Earth is essentially gagged and oppressed but she still speaks through the symbolism of the white Camelia, a symbol of maternal love.

The first page of the journal contains an image of a camellia flower and has these words:

“The white camellia is a symbol of adoration and deep desire.”
